Blogging our way through the Facebook phenomenon

Facebook may follow you like that ugly monkey tattoo

You know what I’m talking about - that 18 inch ugly monkey tattoo that just seemed to appear after your “Great Tequila Weekend” with the boys - it seemed like such a good idea at the time!

However, your Facebook existence may not be as private as you might think. In fact, your Facebook exploits may follow you like the mall security guard on a jaunt through the mall with your bulging backpack.

Today, employers often seek an impression of who you really are as compared to what your resume says.  Facebook and other social networking sites offer an attractive means of satisfying that desire. Whether ethical, morally responsible or fair, future employers may look into what you have said, pictures taken of you and the causes you represent etc. on social media sites like Facebook.

Your free-wheeling days of try anything, join anything, say anything may very well come back to haunt you. The fact that you have forgotten your support 10 years ago for drunken drag racing could jeopardize your job application to MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving).

Face the facts and presume that anyone may be able to read what you post online and, for many years to come.
